University of Washington, Seattle: Contested Urban Spaces

In collaboration with Dr. Anu Taranath, faculty study abroad program director at the University of Washington Seattle, ESG sponsored a workshop from 11-19 Aug 2009 on “Contested Urban Spaces” for 20 students, covering themes of social justice, urbanization, and human rights in Bangalore. From 2004 to 2006, ESG facilitated week long Experiential educational programs each year for students from the Study abroad programs of the University of Washington, Seattle. The main focus of these programs were the impacts of globalisation on cities in developing countries. ESG facilitated guest lectures, field excursions and interactive discussions and debates which were highly appreciated by and rewarding to the students.

International Honours Program

Every year since 2002 ESG has helped organize the India sector of the International Honours Programme’s “Health and Community” and “Cities in the 21st Century” courses. “Health and Community” is a Spring programme offered from February through March, while “Cities in the 21st Century” is a Fall programme offered from November to December. International Honors Programs are offered in affiliation with the School for International Training (SIT), the accredited higher education division of World Learning.

Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad Program

In July 2005, ESG coordinated the Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad program Centre for South Asia, University of Wisconsin-Madison of the Bangalore sector of the India program for a group of K12 teachers. The program included guest lectures on the growth of Bangalore, the impacts of IT on the social and cultural life and the Environmental challenges faced by Bangalore. The program concluded with a number of field visits to areas in and around Bangalore, the Vikasana School and Interaction with local communities.
