Making our Neighbourhoods Safe for our Children

A workshop for all residents of Ward 198 (Hemmigepura Ward)

Organised by Environment Support Group in collaboration with Enfold Proactive Health Trust and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike

child sexual abuse

Recently, a five year old child was brutally raped by a neighbour in Balaji Layout, Vajarahalli, Ward 198 of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. The perpetrator of this horrific crime was caught along with his accomplice and jailed. But the child did not survive the attack.

Child sexual abuse is a serious problem in our society. Children are being increasingly exposed to sexual violence and sexual misconduct. Yet, we hesitate to speak openly about its prevalence. Hence, we fail to take any precautions. As a result, our neighbourhoods, homes, schools, streets, and shops, are not safe. Ward 198 is filled with residential neighbourhoods. That means there are thousands and thousands of children who trust adults to ensure their neighbourhoods are safe and secure - in every respect. But as the brutal rape and murder of this little child reveals, our homes, schools and neighbourhoods are not safe. Children are becoming victims of our collective neglect. This needs to stop.

To address what steps need to be taken to make our neighbourhoods safe for our children, Environment Support Group, in collaboration with Enfold Proactive Health Trust, and with active support and cooperation of our Corporator Shri. Arya Srinivas, invite you to a workshop on: “Making our Neighbourhoods Safe for Our Children”.

On 28th October, 2017, Saturday @ Government Kannada Higher Secondary School, Vajarahalli, Holiday Village Resort Road, Off Kanakapura Road, Bangalore. Google Map: https://maps.google.com/?q=12.873625,77.542625
