Lake Walk – October 2021
Lake Walk @ Uttarahalli Kere & Subramanyapura Kere
Bengaluru was once called ‘the city of thousand lakes’. Have you ever wondered what happened to these pristine lakes that dotted our landscapes? Are you curious to know the possibilities in creating a water and food secure future through lakes? One of the most important aspects of the conservation story is public imagination and reconnect with the ecological system.
Environment Support Group has been working with protecting and rehabilitating lakes in Bengaluru and across Karnataka, in socially just and ecologically wise ways for the last two decades. Over the past decade, ESG has consistently worked to raise awareness to conserve and protect lakes from encroachment, pollution and degradation, and also to secure the livelihoods of those who depend on these wetland systems. ESG’s approach has drawn global acclamation, including from late Nobel laureate Prof. Elinor Ostrom and from UN-Water which has recognised ESG’s lake protection efforts as a global best practice.
Come join us for the walk and conversation on lakes woven around history, ecology, livelihoods, legality and imaginations of food and water security.
Note: It is advised to wear full-length trousers, good walking shoes and a bottle of water, as one has to be prepared to walk through uneven terrain.
We hope to see you there!
